Mr. Galbraith received his MS in Biology from Pittsburgh State University and has spent over 25 years of his career in the quality assurance field with extensive experience in both poultry slaughter and further processing in all meat categories. He has been involved with a wide range of products in the retail and food service categories having managed the Research and Development and Quality Assurance functions for multiple plants of two nationally known poultry companies.

Mr. Galbraith left Cargill Turkey Products in December, 2001 to join HCG. During his tenure with Cargill, he had responsibility over the quality assurance, food safety, and regulatory affairs for that company. He developed food safety interventions for the slaughter and further processed activities in the plants and was especially involved with the development of strategies to control Listeria in post-processed products. He has worked previously with individuals at the University of Arkansas Poultry Science, Texas A&M University, and Oklahoma State University to research and develop new methods of pathogen control while in industry.

Mr. Galbraith has received training in an International HACCP Alliance certified HACCP course and has also received Advanced HACCP and FSIS, In-Depth Verification (IDV) Review training. In addition, he taught HACCP and food safety training classes for Cargill. He was also a member of Cargill’s task force that developed a state of the art approach to Listeria control and monitoring. He has developed several auditing programs and participated in development of the company food safety audit program.

Mr. Galbraith has had experience in dealing with USDA at all levels, having been extensively involved with FSIS, USDA since the implementation of the HACCP/pathogen reduction regulation. He has consulted with many companies since joining HCG in various regulatory enforcement situations. In particular, he has worked with many companies on Listeria compliance and control programs. He has developed the HCG training programs for Listeria control and compliance and has conducted several validation seminars for NMA. His experience in the poultry slaughter process has aided many companies in the effort to reduce Salmonella.

Mr. Galbraith has been a long-term member of the Poultry Science Association and the Institute of Food Technologists. He is also a member of the International Association of Food Protection and the Ozark section of the Institute of Food Technologists. In addition, he was a charter member of the University of Arkansas HACCP Roundtable, which has sought to improve the implementation of science based HACCP with industry and USDA. He has also been a member of the National Turkey Federation Technical and Regulatory Committee and served on numerous NTF task force committees. Mr. Galbraith was a member of Corporate Cargill’s Food Safety Steering Committee while employed with the company.

Since joining HCG, he has conducted training in several foreign countries and many individual companies, both in basic HACCP and in regulatory compliance. In addition, he has aided many companies, both domestic and foreign, in regulatory compliance issues. In particular, he has used his industry experience to resolve difficult Listeria contamination problems in various RTE processes. Recently, Mr. Galbraith has become a SQF certified expert and is aiding several plants in preparing for the new auditing standards. He is experienced in many different processes and looks forward to using his experience in aiding plants in all of their challenges.
