The SQF Program (Safe, Quality Food) is one of the world’s leading globally accepted food safety and quality management systems. SQF provides independent certification that a food safety and quality system complies with international and domestic food safety regulations. It also assures consistent quality and meeting buyer specifications. SQF certification is supported and often required by an increasing number of international retailers and foodservice providers.

For many years, the SQF audit consisted of two pieces: the desk audit and the on-site audit. The desk audit provided an opportunity to improve written programs without damaging the potential for an “Excellent” overall audit score. This changed in May 2021 under Edition 9.0. Now, without that prior check, losing audit points is more likely for simple procedural documentation omissions. Taking time to learn more about the SQF Code and its requirements will help avoid this. Come join us in an SQF Training event to help ensure the requirements are clear.

The on-site audit includes a thorough examination of facility conditions, processes and employee actions.  The auditor collects evidence of how the written plan is implemented , how records and training demonstrate an effective system.

HCG recommends SQF training to ensure a solid understanding of the code.  Many companies become overwhelmed with the number requirements.  The guidance available on-line is helpful, but often confused as ‘code’.  HCG can help you distinguish between what must be done, and what is recommended.  We work to simplify the code and ensure your success.

HCG is a Licensed Training Center for SQF and can provide instruction the meets the SQFI standards for Practitioner and employee training. We provide consulting services during the implementation process including GAP analysis and program development.

We also provide on-going system support.  The SQF requirement for unannounced audits  requires companies to remain audit-ready.  Using HCG to compliment your own training and auditing efforts will help ensure your certification status is maintained and continuous improvement assures food safety.
