DR. MICHAEL GILSDORF, ASSOCIATE<br />

Dr. Gilsdorf provides regulatory compliance assistance in animal health, import/export equivalence, humane handling, animal disease control and surveillance, and trade negotiations.

Dr. Michael Gilsdorf has extensive experience in management of national animal health program policies, rules, and regulations for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) as well as conducting animal disease prevention, surveillance, control, and eradication procedures for a wide variety of animal health issues.

He retired from a 33-year USDA career in Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS)/ Veterinary Services and International Services after serving as Director, National Center for Animal Health Programs; Director, Ruminant Health Programs; and Director, Surveillance and Disease Eradication. He was also Chief of the National Animal Health Programs Staff and Senior Staff Veterinarian on the Export Animal Staff.

His work with APHIS has included: Field Operations Veterinary Medical Officer, Area Veterinarian, Animal Resource Veterinarian at the National Veterinary Services Laboratory, Headquarters Staff and International Services Epidemiologist. He was the project leader for a reduced dose vaccine project that advanced brucellosis eradication. He played a key role in the 1981 Avian Influenza outbreaks having oversight on APHIS domestic poultry programs, including Avian Influenza and on the National Poultry Improvement Plan. He has been a Foreign Animal Disease (FAD) diagnostician since 1977.

Dr. Gilsdorf’s experience also includes Foreign Animal Disease exclusion, Foot-and- Mouth Disease, Importation and exportation of animals /animal products, Classical Swine Fever, Screwworms, Vesicular Stomatitis, Brucellosis, Tuberculosis, Swine Pseudorabies, Cattle Fever Tick/Babesiosis, Bont Tick, Scrapie, Avian Influenza, Newcastle Disease in Poultry, and Chronic Wasting Disease.

As an Associate in the HACCP Consulting Group and Chief Consultant at International Animal Health Solutions, Dr. Gilsdorf provides regulatory compliance assistance in animal health, import/export equivalence, humane handling, animal disease control and surveillance, and trade negotiations. Dr. Gilsdorf earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Kansas State University, and a Master of Veterinary Microbiology from Iowa State University.
